Perhaps this is why southwestern Australia has had a lot of wildlife buffs visiting throughout the year. With a whopping 24 National Parks, the region is indeed a wildlife paradise. Below are the most popular national parks in southwestern Australia and the wild animals you can expect to see in them.

Leeuwin Naturaliste National Park

The national park is named after two lighthouses - Cape Leeuwin and Cape Naturaliste - that are found within its borders. It is located on Western Australia's South West Region. It features rugged limestone cliffs, granite headlands, curved beaches, sheltered coves and rocky shorelines. It is the best place in southern Australia to watch wild birds such as Red-eared Firetail, White-breasted Robin, Rock Parrot and Emu. It is also endowed with mammals such as Kangaroos, Bandicoots, ringtail possum and bush tailed wallabies.

D'Entreacasteux National Park

This park is located on Western Australia and is named after a French admiral - Bruni D'Entrecasteaux - that was first European to sight the land. It is home to Lake Jasper and Lake Yeagarup and thus you can expect to see a lot of marine wildlife. It also has a vast wetland known as black water. The park boasts the largest concentration of Flesh-footed Shearwaters in the world with up to 300,000 pairs breeding from here.

Stirling Range National Park

Located about 337 km south-east of Perth in southwestern Australia, this park is home to birds such as long-billed Black Cockatoos, endangered Short-billed Black Cockatoos and Western Whipbird, It is the place to enjoy scenic rolling forest canopies and rare birds.

Porongurup National Park

This park is located in the Great South Western Region, about 360 kilometers south of Perth and 40 kilometers from Albany. It is home to the Porongurup Range that was formed during the Precambrian era - about 1200 million years ago. The park is also home to hundreds of Kangaroos families as well as rare birds.
